July 1987. Charter #1719 issued to the Augusta, Maine Chapter. This would be the first HOG Chapter in the State of Maine.

November 1988. First meeting held. Decision made to give charter memberships to members who were actively participating in Chapter Events. Two of those eleven Charter Members continue to be active in the Chapter.

May 1989. First riding event. A poker run with the Southern Maine HOG Chapter. One of the stops was the Harley-Davidson Traveling Museum, which was in Falmouth that day.

The first Lobster run was in 1990, at David Jones' house - David Jones died in 1992 and the first David Jones Memorial Lobster Run was that year.

May 1991. Governor McKernan Run. This event was one of our more successful fundraisers. If you look hard, you might still see some of the T-shirts from that day!

July 1992. The first ride to Klearview Manor in Fairfield, Maine. Klearview Manor is a residential care facility for severely handicapped children and young adults. We have adopted this facility as our main local charity. The ride is one of the favorites of the season concluding with a delicious feed put on by the staff at the Manor.

In addition to Klearview Manor, we also have made contributions to the MDA, the Salvation Army, The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, the WTC disaster fund, local food banks, and the local DARE program. For the past few years, we have helped NCHD adopt a family a Christmas time through donations from wrapping gifts at the shop during the Christmas season.

Augusta HOG members have taken an active role in planning the Maine State HOG Rally every year. Ed Farrell, Dean Henderson, Jeff Rowe, Kerry Sullivan, Holly Billings, and Linda Billings have held committee positions. Our Chapter is well represented at all of the rallies and has won the Chapter Challenge award several times.

We have participated in several town celebration parades including: Richmond Days, Wilton Blueberry Festival, and, Strong Days. It has been fun to help out the towns that our members live in.

Summer 1997. First Ben & Jerry's run was put together by Kirk and Robin Wood.  AHOG members were joined by about 13 bikes from the SMPHOG chapter for a great ride to Waterbury, VT.  A hair-raising ride up through Smuggler's Notch was "enjoyed" by all!  The ice cream factory tour was fun, too!

April 1999.  10th Anniversary Bash held at The Senator.  Guests included directors and members from Southern Maine HOG, Mid-Maine HOG, and Central Maine HOG.  Entertainment was provided by Gary Crocker and our own Dean Henderson.  Several of the Charter Members were in attendance.

January 2000.  First Annual Meeting/Banquet.  The group met at Sally’s for a buffet dinner and business meeting.  Several members enjoyed dancing in the upstairs bar later in the evening.  Previous to this evening, all annual meetings had been held at the Foxglen Snowmobile Club with members providing a potluck dinner.  We certainly ate well!

January 2001. First Annual Auction held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting/Banquet at the Elks Club in Augusta. The goal was to raise $250 for Klearview Manor but at the end of the evening, Auctioneer, John Billings and his very able assistant, Evelyn (Vannah) Chase, had garnered $514!

May 2001. First Annual "I've Been Everywhere in Maine" contest. Ed and Dean put together the criteria for the contest which would include some unusual and out-of-the-way places and some unfamiliar roads. Boy, did we learn a lot about our State!

Our sponsoring dealer is Troy and Diane Reynolds of North Country Harley-Davidson. We thank them for their support and especially for providing us with a place to meet on the first Sunday of the month.

December 2007.  We printed our first AHOG calendar with the upcoming activities and rides for the 2008 season along with numerous pictures taken throughout 2007.

Over a million miles!  We estimated that our riding membership logged over 1,000,000 miles during the 2007 season.  We want to break that record this year!  What's more important is that they were safe miles!  A couple of bikes got some scratches but our members were riding again shortly afterwards.

Our membership has slowly grown over the years. We have approximately 150 members at this time. We may not be the biggest Chapter but we ARE a great family Chapter!
